The River Thurso at Halkirk
The River Thurso at Halkirk
Watercolour, 18 cm x 26 cm
I think one of the best short walks in Caithness is along the river at Halkirk. It starts from the bridge in the centre of the village, with lovely tree-lined banks, and then becomes more open with wide views. The path rises above low cliffs and then continues by water-meadows. Further on, there is the hamlet of Gerston, with some impressive old houses. It all makes for a pleasant way to spend half an hour or so on a summer's day.
